A Recipe with Historical Ingredients

Provided mostly by the Native Wampanoags (90 braves) in, possibly, the year 1621

  • Five deer
  • Waterfowl for a week (Provided by Settlers)
  • Pompion- Boiled Pumpkin
  • Dried Corn boiled into a “stew”

Items that could have been there because of availability:

  • Dried fruit: Raspberries, blueberries, grapes, other wild berries
  • Nuts: Black walnuts, chestnuts, acorns, hickory nuts
  • Fish: Cod, eel
  • Herbs
  • Mandan Opata “Cornballs”
  • Pounded Corn
  • Pounded Sunflower Seeds
  • Boiled Beans
  • All rolled into balls
  • Boiled Green Corn
  • Spread  with Bison Marrow
